For the first time in 21 years, Martin O’Neill will manage Celtic in Europe.
This will be the third game the 73-year-old has taken charge of since returning to Celtic as interim manager.
The Hoops have won two out of two so far and a third successive victory would only increase the appetite for him to be given the job on a full-time basis.
67 Hail Hail understands that O’Neill could be open to staying until the end of the season but for now, the focus is on Midtjylland away, where the Northern Irishman will hope for a better outcome.
Celtic beaten by AC Milan in Martin O’Neill’s last European game
Unlike his last European campaign with Celtic, the Hoops are competing in the Europa League.
However, 21 years ago, Celtic faced AC Milan at Parkhead knowing that they needed a win to keep their chances of qualifying alive.
Having been beaten by the Italian giants at the San Siro in the reverse fixture, the odds were stacked against them.
Despite that, the Bhoys held the star-studded side to a goalless draw but it wasn’t enough, unfortunately, as they ended up finishing bottom of the group behind Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona.
That season saw AC Milan reach the final of the Champions League, where they were involved in that famous Liverpool comeback from 3-0 down to win on penalties.
Meanwhile, this would be O’Neill’s final season as Celtic manager after missing out on the Scottish Premiership title before resigning in May 2005.
