Dermot Desmond and his son, Ross, have certainly hit the headlines after that shambles of a Celtic AGM.
We told BBC Sportsound our thoughts on Ross Desmond’s incredible attack on Celtic supporters as he read from a pre-written script defending his dad.
It was an astonishing and ill-advised statement that, in truth, Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell should have put a stop to.
But when Celtic fans read what Dermot Desmond moaned about back in 2008, they will understand why his son made that statement and no one at the club had the backbone to stop him.

What Dermot Desmond ‘totally abhorred’ about Celtic fans in 2008
Celtic have been extremely successful domestically since the turn of the century. However, on the European front, this great club have been woeful.
But it seems that to be a true Celtic fan, you are not allowed to voice that opinion and are supposed to just happily clap along when things are not going right. That’s according to the largest minority shareholder at least.
As recalled by the Daily Record this morning, Desmond said back in 2008, “The biggest contradiction about Celtic, and Celtic supporters, is from the minority.
“When those same supporters that sing about being ‘faithful through and through’ then boo those at the club that is a complete and utter desecration of that song.
“I totally abhor anyone like that. Real support is when you are losing. Everybody gives me support when I don’t need it. I only want support when I need it.”
Dermot Desmond’s childish contradiction about never being praised for Celtic’s successes
But it gets better. As well as criticising supporters for daring to criticise the club, Desmond also moaned about the board never being praised for the successes that Celtic have enjoyed up until this interview in 2008.
Desmond continued, “When we are winning matches here, when we are winning trophies or winning the league, there will be people that will come up to me at Celtic Park and give me a thumbs up, smile at me, and tell me ‘good man’.
Celtic statement on AGM postponement
“We lose a big match and I’m the greatest b-ll-x on the earth. It’s all my fault, all the directors’ fault. But when we win it is down to the manager and team, not the directors.
“We are beneficiaries of abuse, we are never beneficiaries of praise.”
Wait, so people gave Desmond the thumbs up at Celtic Park when the team was winning matches, trophies and the league but yet, he and his board are ‘never beneficiaries of praise’?
Make that make sense. At the end of the day, when mistakes are made, the board have been responsible for plenty of those.
However, to claim that they were never praised for bringing in the likes of Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan and for their financial acumen up until that period is just not correct.
It’s clear this is a major bugbear for Desmond and has been eating away at him for years, and it perfectly explains why Ross was allowed to nervously deliver that shambles of a statement at the Celtic AGM.
