Neil Lennon will always look back on the 2011 Scottish Cup win against Motherwell as the moment he kickstarted his Celtic career.

Lennon had two spells as Celtic manager, the first one arguably more successful than the other, and won his first trophy in his first full season as the boss.

He was under pressure to deliver at the time after missing out on the league title to Rangers, as well as being beaten by them in the Scottish League Cup. However, they were no match for the Steelmen.

Neil Lennon won his first trophy as Celtic manager vs Motherwell

Before the game, Celtic fans flew a banner over Hampden Park that read ‘In Lennon we trust’ following some difficult off-pitch encounters in the build-up to the game.

That trust was repaid as the Hoops made light work of their opponents with a 3-0 win.

Ki Sung-yueng’s long-range piledriver after 30 minutes set the tone before Mark Wilson and Charlie Mulgrew made sure of the win.

How many trophies did Neil Lennon win at Celtic?

As a player and manager combined, Lennon won a grand total of 21 trophies, making him one of the most successful in Celtic history.

In his two spells as a manager, he won 10 trophies, including five league titles, four Scottish Cups and one League Cup.

After the May 2011 victory, the Hoops won the Scottish Premiership every year before departing in 2014.

Yes, his second spell didn’t work out quite the same, but he is remembered as a Celtic legend and that Motherwell game will always be seen as the turning point.
