With less than 48 hours until the summer transfer window opens in Scotland, interest in Celtic’s players is starting to gather momentum.

Brendan Rodgers’ need to add quality to the Celtic first team is matched by another need to get a number of fringe players off the wage bill to trim down the size of the squad this summer.

And with many of last season’s summer signings deemed not good enough to play for the club, one of them looks like their Celtic exit is nearing after a Serie A club made a fresh approach for his signature.

Gustaf Lagerbielke’s Celtic exit nears

Gustaf Lagerbielke‘s time at Celtic has been a very strange one. Brought in as a player who could replace Carl Starfelt, there was hope that the Swedish defender could easily step into his compatriot’s boots.

But since dropping out of the first team back in October, Lagerbielke’s appearances in the green and white Hoops have been sparse.

And it seems now, that his time at Celtic is coming to an end after this update by Sky Sports’, Anthony Joseph.

Lecce was close to agreeing a deal in January for the 23-year-old but an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers put an end to the move happening then.

And now it looks like the Serie A side is showing resilience and it could now pay off as their intentions become clearer.

Used by Brendan Rodgers at the start of the season predominantly because of the injury crisis, Lagerbielke was given his third start of the season in the first Glasgow Derby of the new campaign despite his red card in Rotterdam just four days earlier in the Champions League.

Lagerbielke played the next three games before being axed after a 2-1 away win at Motherwell and he has barely been seen since despite glowing reports prior to his arrival last year.

Although scoring in the 2-1 Champions League win over Feyenoord ended a decade-long winless streak in the competition, it seems even that wasn’t enough to persuade Brendan Rodgers to give the former Elfsborg man and Swedish Defender of the Year another chance.
