Celtic are said to be looking to purchase David Watson from Kilmarnock in the upcoming January transfer window.

The young midfielder has been in sparkling form for Stuart Kettlewell’s side after Watson scored three goals and created one assist in 19 appearances.

At just 20 years of age, the Scotland U21 star currently has 11 caps and one goal to his name as his SPFL form earns him international recognition.

And now, after Celtic’s interest in Watson was made clear, it seems Aberdeen are also keen on the Kilmarnock midfielder.

Aberdeen are ‘long-term admirers’ of Celtic target David Watson

According to the Daily Record Jimmy Thelin fancies taking young Watson to Aberdeen when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Watson has risen through the Kilmarnock ranks and has already made 118 senior appearances at such a young age.

And now, as Watson’s impressive form continues, the Scotland U21 captain is attracting attention from the Scottish champions and relegation-threatened Aberdeen.

How much Celtic could pay to land Kilmarnock star David Watson

With Watson’s contract up at the end of the season, the midfield general is free to talk to clubs about a potential summer move.

However, that move will come with a development fee that will still cost Celtic a pretty penny should they take their interest forward.

The report suggests that a fee matching that which Rangers had to pay Aberdeen for Connor Barron may have to be paid.

A tribunal ruled that the Ibrox club had to pay The Dons £639,920 after Barron’s move was complete, and it is thought that Celtic may well have to match that figure.
