Abu Kamara makes his intentions clear to Norwich City after reported Celtic interest

Celtic are probing the market for reinforcements and could be busy between now and next Friday’s transfer deadline.

Brendan Rodgers has already clarified that he wants two midfielders if Matt O’Riley leaves the club following an official bid from Brighton & Hove Albion.

There is confidence a deal could now be struck to lure the Denmark international to the Premier League. In light of this, Augsburg’s Arne Engels and Lausanne-Sport attacking midfielder Alvyn Sanches are on the Bhoys’ radar.

If Celtic supporters were to construct a tier list of priority positions to strengthen, left-back would be at the top of their list. Interest persists in Liverpool full-back Owen Beck, and there is still work being done to recruit the Welshman.

Beyond that, a central defender and a third striker could be added to the fold. Republic of Ireland international Aaron Connolly has been identified as a cost-effective solution to bolster the forward line.

Despite the flanks being well-stocked, there could also be movement if the opportunity presents itself. According to reports, Celtic could now have a chance of landing a reported target.

Abu Kamara hands in Norwich City transfer request

Earlier this month, Celtic were reportedly monitoring Norwich City winger Abu Kamara, who is also said to have attracted interest from Southampton, Leicester City, Stoke City and Hull City this window.

The 21-year-old registered a goal and assist for the Canaries against Stevenage in the EFL Cup last week. Last season, he was a pivotal asset for Portsmouth as they won promotion to the Sky Bet Championship, notching ten goals and laying on 11 assists in 52 appearances.

Now, according to BBC Sport journalist Alex Howell, the England Under-20 international could be on the move after submitting a transfer request, as seen below via his official X account.

He stated: “Norwich forward Abu Kamara has handed in a transfer request. Clubs in Championship believed to be monitoring him. 21-year-old has one year left on his deal with a club held option of a further year. More coming on @BBCSport. Story with @nickmashiter. #NCFC.”

Alongside Celtic being named as suitors earlier in the window, several Championship clubs are now in the running to secure his signature.

Moving parts can change the story of transfer interest swiftly, so it is worth bearing in mind that Celtic’s interest in Kamara could now have passed.

Nevertheless, he would offer a dynamic option on the right flank that would push Nicolas Kuhn all the way for his place in the side.

Per Fotmob, Kamara created 43 chances and completed 57 successful dribbles over the last term on league duty. He also took 196 touches in the opposition penalty area, illustrating his ability to threaten opposition backlines.

Some Celtic fans may feel other positions require attention in the immediate term. That is a fair viewpoint, but you can never have too much attacking talent distributed throughout the squad. Hopefully, the Bhoys can recruit some quality additions with less than two weeks of the window remaining.
