Celtic have gone through many strikers since Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit in January 2025.
From Shin Yamada to Kelechi Iheanacho. But one of the names previously linked with a move to Celtic was Callum Wilson.
At the time, Wilson was a free agent after leaving Newcastle United. He secured a move to West Ham last summer before popping up on Celtic’s radar again during the recent winter transfer window.
Wilson was relegated with West Ham last season, but his Premier League journey continues ahead of a move to Brentford, which raises the question if Celtic were right not to push for his signature.

Callum Wilson is expected to join Brentford after West Ham United’s relegation
Brentford narrowly missed out on European football last season, which would have been a monumental achievement for a club that was tipped for relegation before a ball was kicked.
But according to Sky Sports, Wilson, who is 34, is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Bees and will play a back-up role to Brazil forward Igor Thiago.

Could Wilson have matched Kelechi Iheanacho’s magic?
When Wilson was linked with Celtic, one of the question marks over his head was his ability to play on a regular basis, given his fitness issues.
When you look at how Iheanacho performed during this past campaign, how he struggled to maintain his fitness, then you wonder if Wilson would have done any worse.
Even amid West Ham’s struggles and ultimate relegation, he stayed mostly fit, featuring in 32 Premier League matches and impressively netting seven goals despite making just 11 starts.
Given that he is staying in the Premier League, one of the most gruelling and difficult leagues in Europe, you wonder if those previously questioning the Englishman were wrong.
This wasn’t a question of quality. But if he can play regularly.
Well, Wilson played 1,366 minutes last term, while Iheanacho managed 890 minutes, scoring nine goals, and constantly making an impact from the bench.
There is no reason why Wilson couldn’t have done something similar to the Nigerian star, because they both have outstanding movement and composure inside the penalty area.
Plus, Wilson doesn’t have 95 Premier League goals to his name for no reason.
