Agent confirms Celtic contact about his 6-goal striker ahead of summer window
Antoine Semenyo’s agent has confirmed to Football Scotland that Celtic scouts have reached out to him for information on the in-form English Championship striker.
Semenyo has scored six goals in the English second-tier since November, also contributing a healthy eight assists.
His performances are turning heads and there were reports this month that scout Craig Strachan had attended a recent Bristol City game to watch him in action.
Semenyo showing potential of interest to Celtic
Agent Tony Finnigan, who represents Semenyo, confirmed Celtic’s interest by telling Football Scotland: “I had a conversation with Strachan who rang up to ask little bits of info on the player and a bit about how I found him and what he’s like as a lad.
“That was it. If it’s something they’re going to do in the summer window I’m not sure but it’s nice to know that his talents are going as far as Scotland to one of the great institutions in world football. There’s not really much more to say than that.”
Clearly Celtic will be tracking a number of potential summer targets for various scenarios ahead of the window opening.
I’m sure Strachan has contacted many agents about many players this season. That’s his job.
The Bristol Post reported in January that the Robins could be looking for as much as £20m for the forward, which obviously is a little out of our price range.
However, in the event of a shock attacking sale or other such development, Celtic have to keep their eye on potential replacements at the top end of the market too.
Semenyo, still just 22 and with a contract expiring in 2023, is definitely showing promise.
Given clubs such as RB Salzburg also looking at him according to Football Scotland, it’s natural the Bhoys are in the hunt too even if nothing comes of it.
