The agent of Mohamed Magdy Afsha is again linking Celtic with a move for the Egyptian international.

The Al Ahly star, an attacking midfielder, is said to be attracting interest from the Bhoys as well as Turkish duo Galatasaray and Besiktas.

Egyptian football website KingFut.com attributes quotes to his agent made on a radio station in his homeland, suggesting Celtic are competing for his signature.

However, the comments are made in conjunction with a plea to Afsha’s current club with regards to offering him a new contract, which he is said to be up for signing ‘immediately’.

Whether the agent is simply using Celtic’s name to draw out better terms for his client, or the Bhoys’ interest is substantial, is unknown.

It’s not the first time this agent has linked the nine-cap international to the Hoops.

Similar comments were made in October and November last year, which we discussed at the time.

Is Afsha worth a look for Celtic?

The 25-year-old does have an interesting profile.

With 12 goals and 18 assists in 68 appearances for his club, he’s proven to be a creative talent in a side that competes for national and continental honours. [Transfermarkt]

He was crucial in their 2019/20 CAF Champions League win, scoring a dramatic late winner in the final against fierce rivals Zamalek. It was a stunning finish, volleyed in from outside the box.

As Celtic consider an attacking midfield future, potentially without Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie, Afsha could be the kind of talent good enough to come in and compete for a first-team spot.

However, with his current deal not expiring until 2024, and other clubs apparently interested, a big-money move may not be realistic.

Still, a name worth keeping in mind as we approach the summer transfer window.

Elsewhere on 67 Hail Hail, there’s little to worry about in overnight Eddie Howe to Celtic delay reports.
