Still no sign of a striker for Celtic.
It’s day number 20 of the January transfer window, and Celtic are still searching the transfer market pretty hard for some much-needed goals.
If the Celtic Park faithful can keep up, one man who has been linked to the Hoops is West Ham United’s much-maligned striker, Callum Wilson.
For all intents and purposes, Wilson was supposed to leave West Ham during the January transfer window; that’s why the Celtic links came up.
But then, on Saturday, the Hammers beat Tottenham 2-1, with Wilson scoring a stoppage-time winner, and now Alan Shearer is confused by his situation.

Callum Wilson at Celtic… yes or no?

Alan Shearer on ‘strange’ Callum Wilson situation at West Ham United amid Celtic transfer links
There were initial debates between Celtic fans on whether they should push for Wilson, given his age, 33, and past injury records.
But the likelihood of the champions of Scotland signing the Premier League hitman started to decrease, and you would probably think it’s further down the drain now that he helped the Hammers win such a pivotal game.
However, as Shearer outlined on The Rest is Football, it’s a ‘very strange’ situation with Wilson, especially given that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have signed two strikers this month for huge money.
“It’s a really strange situation with Callum Wilson,” said Shearer. “They signed two centre-forwards at West Ham for nearly £50 million.
“On a huge gamble to try and keep them in the Premier League. And then, I listen to the manager Nuno say, ‘it might be his time to find somewhere else’, or whatever.
“But then, you turn to him for the last two minutes, and he scores a winner. Gets you three huge points. Yeah, really strange.”
What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Wilson’s future
You just never know, with time ticking before the January transfer window slams shut, a man of Wilson’s calibre could become available.
That was proven by Nuno’s post-match interview after his side’s win at Spurs, and how he didn’t even confirm that he will stay amid the outside noise.
Speaking on BBC Sport, Nuno stated about Wilson leaving: “We are still in the market to bring players in. We need to rebalance our squad.
“Rumours, rumours and rumours. We are doing things properly.”
On whether Nuno still ‘expects to have Callum here at the end of the window’: “Every player that is in the building. I give them a day off (after the Spurs game).
“After tomorrow, every player that is there, it’s up to us to count on them and support them. They need to help us, and help the club.”
