Lanus want £4m for left-back Alexandro Bernabei as Celtic continue their pursuit for his transfer, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has reported this afternoon.

Celtic have been linked with Bernabei for close to a week now as Ange Postecoglou looks for competition on the left side of his defence.

The 21-year-old has been a regular for the Argentinian club until recently and looks set to earn a big move to Europe. Now the fee needed to land him has become known.

Greg Taylor performed consistently throughout the 2021/22 campaign. In fact, he probably did better than many expected in Ange Postecoglou’s team.

It was undoubtedly his best year in a Celtic shirt and there’s no reason to think he will disappear to the fringes over the summer. He’ll get plenty of match action next term.

But Celtic do need another option. Liam Scales looks to be heading out on loan this summer and beyond Josip Juranovic switching flanks or giving the inexperienced Adam Montgomery chances, there’s no viable competition for Taylor.

Bernabei is a player on the rise and his style looks a good fit for the Bhoys.

He’s quick, attack-minded and constantly eager to feed balls into the final third. That’s what Postecoglou wants from his full-backs, almost as a priority above the defending.

I’m not in a position to say if he’s worth £4m, because I haven’t seen enough of him. But I’d say that doesn’t sound out with Celtic’s reach and looks like a market value consistent with defenders who have a similar profile.

If this is the fee Lanus want, then the Bhoys should get it all sorted and deliver the player that Ange and his scouting staff have identified.

Bernabei’s presence will undoubtedly strengthen the squad and, in time, outright improve the starting eleven.
