Celtic fans are hoping that the club will make some big moves during the January transfer window.

A lot of talk has been about who Brendan Rodgers could bring into the building as Celtic edge ever closer to securing yet another title.

But what about outgoings and who could head for the exit door this month? And will there be any surprises?

It’s understandable when the Premier League money comes calling that the powers that be at Parkhead might have to consider because of the financial gulf.

Even then, Celtic do well to sell on their terms, as they proved with Matt O’Riley in the summer, but one of his replacements is already being tipped for a move, not to England, but to Serie A.

Andy Walker would be ‘amazed’ if Celtic sold Arne Engels

Arne Engels secured a record transfer to Celtic in the summer and he has shown great promise since donning the green and white colours.

But Andy Walker was told that there is transfer interest in Engels from Serie A title challengers Atalanta, despite only recently moving to the club.

The former striker was quick to dismiss it all and stated that he would be ‘amazed’ if the rising Belgium star was sold by the club, as he told Go Radio.

Walker has backed Rodgers to work his magic and, over the coming years, take Engels’ game to the next level.

Presenter Paul Cooney stated: “Atalanta, we touched upon it last night, they are interested in Arne Engels, according to reports from Italy. He was £11m in the summer. Andy, do you think any prospect? He isn’t going anywhere just now, is he?”

Walker responded: “He obviously has got a reputation that proceeds him. Celtic have got in there. They are obviously not prepared to do any business that would allow him to leave for anything less than they bought him for.

“I would be amazed if Celtic wanted to get rid of him. There is a player there who can really improve. In part of Brendan Rodgers coming back, I am sure was to invest in players at this level. That’s what was missing for a number of Celtic managers. Brendan Rodgers has got that. I would imagine he could make him into a much better player.”

Engels’ stats for Celtic this season

Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate are Celtic’s starting midfield players – although, the latter has been dropped to the bench of late.

With Engels, fellow summer arrival Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo all fighting for the other spot. All have impressed and are showing exciting signs that the future is bright in the middle of the park.

WhoScored have rated Engels’ performances in the Premiership this season at 6.92 and 6.77 for his Champions League displays.
