Ange Postecoglou has effectively signalled the transfer deadline day we’re all hoping for as Celtic supporters, suggesting after the Ross County match that a signing could be made and that Oliver Abildgaard is a name in the mix.

As we discussed earlier this morning, Fabrizio Romano believes the Danish midfielder is on the brink of signing a contract at Celtic with agreements in place.

And Ange refused to rule out a move for the Dane, speaking to journalists after the emphatic 4-1 win away to Ross County last night.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said when asked what fans can expect today: “They can expect some transfer and ins and outs, I guess. We will see what happens over the next 24 hours. Potentially there could be an opportunity to bring someone in.”

Postecoglou was then asked specifically about Abildgaard, to which he said: “It’s definitely a name. There’s been a lot of names. There’s 24 hours to go and there’s still things, some outgoings we are still working on.

“We will see how things fall over the next 24 hours and see what comes of it. It’s a lot less hectic that last year. It was almost ten minutes to midnight when we signed Cameron Carter-Vickers. That was a more stressful time.”

In the past, Postecoglou has often shut down specific lines of enquiry if there is no truth to the question, although we will just have to wait and see how this one pans out.

Celtic have already made seven first-team signings this summer, spending close to £20m. In that context, bringing more players in has generally relied on moving high earners such as Christopher Jullien and Albian Ajeti out the door.

However, with most of the deadwood in the squad shifted, it seems we could see one more first-team quality move before we move on with the rest of the season. Bring on the confirmation!

In other news, Fabrizio Romano sets up a pleasing deadline day for Celtic as Oliver Abildgaard comes into view.
