‘Anything can happen’ – Celtic now tussling with Bundesliga side to sign Kasper Dolberg

Celtic seem desperate to sign Kasper Dolberg.

The Hoops need a quality striker through the door before Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline, which would allow Adam Idah to make his switch to Swansea City.

Celtic’s initial offer for Dolberg was deemed unsatisfactory by Belgian giants Anderlecht, who expected an opening bid of at least £9m plus add-ons.

Initially, Danish media were claiming that Celtic would sign him for £8m on a four-year deal, but that report was rubbished on Friday.

Celtic may need to spend more than £10m to secure Dolberg, who will need to be convinced by the Scottish champions that leaving Belgium for Glasgow is the right decision.

But Celtic now have strong competition to secure Dolberg’s signature.

Monchengladbach & Celtic ‘making concrete moves’ for Dolberg

It is being reported by journalist Rudy Galetti on social media platform X that Borussia Monchengladbach have joined the race to sign the Denmark star.

Galetti claims while Celtic are working harder than any other club to sign Dolberg, the pursuit is wide open and ‘anything can happen’ between now and Monday.

The reporter has claimed: “Celtic and Gladbach are making concrete moves for Kasper Dolberg right now.

“The Scottish side is currently pushing the hardest as it sees him as a top target, but the race for the Anderlecht striker is still open and anything can happen in the next few hours.”

Is Monchengladbach more attractive than Celtic?

Borussia Monchengladbach are an established Bundesliga club who have competed in Germany’s top-flight in every season since 2008.

They are ranked 120th in UEFA’s club coefficient compared to Celtic in 58th, and last played in Europe during the 2020/21 season in the Champions League.

Gladbach will not compete in European football this season having finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season, but they are two time winners of the UEFA Cup in the 1970s.

The German side have spent just over €17m this summer, which works out at around £14.9m. Celtic, on the other hand, have splurged under £10m on players.
