Celtic’s pursuit of Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels is one of the main headliners in the Bhoys’ late window dash for arrivals.
Yesterday, reports suggested that the reigning Scottish Premiership champions will submit a second offer worth £9 million for the Belgium Under-21 international.
Initially, Celtic saw a £6.5 million bid turned down for Engels, who has emerged as one of their top targets to replace Matt O’Riley.
LAFC attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz is another player Celtic have put a proposal on the table for. At this point, Brendan Rodgers is trying to bring both to Glasgow ahead of the cut-off point on Friday, but we all know how quickly the trajectory of transfer stories can change.

Now, Augsburg boss Jess Thorup has spoken out on reports mentioning Engels in connection with the Bhoys.

Taking to social media platform X, journalist Benjamin Hecker has delivered a translation of comments from Thorup on Engels’ situation at Augsburg, which can be seen below.
The Danish coach stated: “I think he will be in our squad for next game (vs. Heidenheim on Sunday). I heard about the rumours, I don‘t know what will happen in the last couple of days.”
Despite the inevitable dread some may feel reading this, it is important to remember that this is a pretty standard issue response from a manager to one of their players being linked with a move elsewhere.
Rodgers said O’Riley was available to face St Mirren last Sunday before his move to Brighton & Hove Albion picked up, to cite one example of relevance.
However, it could suggest there is still work to be done on a move for Engels, which is something most supporters knew anyway.
As it stands, Engels is an Augsburg player and will continue to be until circumstances change, but we will find out by Friday at the latest if Celtic prove successful in their pursuit of the talented midfielder.
Time is of the essence for the club to do deals. 67 Hail Hail will be on the case as soon as information comes to light on any transfer stories over the next few days.
