Celtic will need a new goalkeeper at the end of the season as Kasper Schmeichel’s contract is now well into its final six months.
Schmeichel was the heir to Joe Hart after the Celtic hero retired in the summer of 2024 as Brendan Rodgers brought the Danish international to Parkhead for free.
The 39-year-old was tremendously popular in his first season at Celtic as Schmeichel proved to be a reliable and solid goalkeeper in a double-winning year.
However, this season has seen Schmeichel struggle at Celtic with the likes of Chris Sutton calling for the club to replace the veteran stopper.
And it seems that replacement could be available for a bargain fee after a former Celtic target looks set for a bargain January transfer move.

Celtic could get Dominik Livakovic from Fenerbahçe for €4m
Dominik Livakovic is a goalkeeper who was heavily linked to Celtic when Joe Hart retired in 2024.
Now at Fenerbahçe, the Croatian international now appears to be on the move and the terms of the deal could easily be matched by Celtic.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has delivered an update on Livakovic that the Parkhead club should be all over.
Sabuncuoğlu said on X, “Dinamo Zagreb has made a loan offer for Dominik Livakovic with a 4 million euro buy option!”
€4m equates to roughly £3.4m which is far less than what Celtic paid for Vasilis Barkas.
Why Celtic should replace Kasper Schmeichel with Dominik Livakovic
First off, it’s important to note that Celtic have identified Viljami Sinisalo as the goalkeeper who would take over from Schmeichel.
However, that promise was made under Brendan Rodgers and even to this date, the young Finn has barely featured as Celtic still heavily rely on Schmeichel.
That reliance has cost Celtic in defeats to Motherwell and Rangers this season and here is why 67 Hail Hail believes Livakovic would be perfect for the Bhoys.
- He’s a proven winner: Seven-time Croatian champion, 2 x Croatian Cup, 3 x Croatian Super Cups
- Hugely experienced: 71 caps for Croatia
- Big game experience: Played in various cup finals, World Cup third-place winner, reached UEFA Nations League final, has Champions League experience and has reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
For just over £3.4m, Livakovic would be a low-risk, high-reward signing and Martin O’Neill should at least get Celtic to ask the question.
