Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of months you’ll know that Celtic need a right-back and quickly.

We’ve been linked with a lot of names for the role, the most prominent of which over the last week have come via respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano seems very knowledgeable about the situation at Celtic this summer and has reported that Celtic are keen on Brandon Soppy and Aurelio Buta of Rennes and Royal Antwerp.

Soppy has certainly caught the eye of supporters. We have had a solid history of bringing young French talents to the club and improving them. All things considered, he looks a prime talent ready for more first-team football.

But, is Celtic a place for learning this season?

Arguably we need a player to come in and hit the ground running. A player with a bit of experience who has made mistakes, learned from them, and is still progressing.

Buta ticks the right-back boxes for Celtic

That’s more in line with the profile of the rapid Buta. The Antwerp man has made over 100 appearances since moving to Belgium from Benfica, where he played for their B team.

It’s football in the bank that Soppy, or another reported target such as Sacha Boey, just doesn’t have.

Buta is an attack-focused right-sided wing-back, which is the kind of player Postecoglou apparently wants in the door based on his style of play at previous clubs.

He has the attributes, football education and the experience we need. So let’s go out and get him.

These fans are certainly keen on the signing, taking to Twitter this weekend to share their thoughts on it all…

In other news, Sunderland want to sign Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.
