Sunderland are ready to offer Leigh Griffiths a route out of Celtic, The Scottish Sun reports.
The paper believes that the Black Cats want to sign up the striker on loan for the remainder of his contract at Celtic.
Griffiths recently signed a new one-year deal at the Bhoys.
However, shortly after he was dropped from Ange Postecoglou’s training camp squad due to off the pitch problems.
Many Celtic fans at this point would be happy to see the back of him. Though it’s not yet clear whether the club still sees him as a viable part of Postecoglou’s plans.
The new boss wasn’t in the mood to talk about Griffiths’ situation at the end of the camp in Wales, telling The Glasgow Times on Wednesday night: “You know how much time I have spent thinking about that? You’ve asked me and I’ve just thought about it.
“We’ll let it run its course and once it’s done and we get back up to Scotland then we’ll deal with it then. I’ve not spoken to him.”
Frankly, another club picking up his wages sounds like a good scenario for everyone involved. Celtic can then move on and focus on other matters.
If Sunderland want him in League One, then take him.
It would mean Celtic need to quickly find another striking option, especially if Odsonne Edouard is also on his way out of the club.
Kyogo Furuhashi is arriving and can play through the middle as well as on the left-wing, but having an in the box finisher would be important to the squad.
Sounds like the kind of thing we should be looking at Kevin Nisbet for, doesn’t it?
