“Bigger than many realise”; Odin Thiago Holm tells Norwegians why he’s signed for Celtic

Odin Thiago Holm is looking forward to the experiences ahead of him at Celtic, telling his old club’s official website why the Bhoys are the right club for him at the right time.

Holm had been at Valerenga from a young age and previously resisted attempts from some of Europe’s biggest clubs to sign him up to their development sides. He preferred first-team football in his homeland. Now though, the time is right for a bigger test.

The 20-year-old said: “I have had a very good time in Vålerenga. I came as a 15-year-old and have grown here in many ways, both as a player and as a person. I have been lucky to have played for Norway’s wildest fans, and I greatly appreciate the support both through thick and thin.

“Celtic is a massive club, perhaps bigger than many realise. I am looking forward to playing in front of 60-65,000 fans on a weekly basis, the derby against Rangers and not least the Champions League in the autumn.”

Celtic already have very competitive midfield options. Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley are all regulars while David Turnbull and Aaron Mooy are in support, as it stands.

There could well be exits over the summer so bringing in a young talent like Holm with senior experience and a hunger to perform at a higher level looks smart.

Holm will now join up with the squad at Lennoxtown over the next couple of weeks before a training camp in Portugal and a trip out to Asia to play friendlies in South Korea and Japan.

It’ll be interesting to see how quickly he can work his way into the manager’s plans. Although Rodgers was not at the club when he was initially identified by the scouting department, the new boss has already talked up strong attributes he sees in Holm’s game.

Celtic have recorded an interview with the new signing which will be released over the coming days, so we’ll all hear more from him soon.
