Valerenga have stated their happiness at the deal which resulted in Odin Thiago Holm’s move to Celtic this week.
Holm has signed a five-year deal with the Scottish champions to become the first signing of the second Brendan Rodgers era, having been scouted and tracked by the club for a long time.
Holm is reported to have signed for a fee of around £2.5m, with a 15% sell-on fee added to the deal on any profit made down the line by Celtic.
‘Biggest sale ever’
For Valerenga sporting director Joacim Jonsson, it’s a significant piece of business. He told the club’s official website: “It was his turn now. There has been great interest in Odin for several years, but it is only now that we feel that it was right for both him and the club.
“This is Vålerenga’s biggest sale ever. Odin comes to a club that dominates in the domestic league and has the ball a lot in matches, which suits his style of play. It will be a great pleasure to see him in the Champions League in the autumn.”
The 20-year-old will immediately compete for a place in Rodger’s starting eleven as a midfielder, having gained significant experience in the Norwegian top flight for his age already.
Holm prioritised playing time over potential moves to Manchester United, Liverpool and Juventus in the past and it seems Celtic have managed to fend off significant interest from elsewhere to land him.
The Champions League undoubtedly has played a role in attracting him to Glasgow and hopefully he can use the platform available to him to showcase his true potential.
Celtic supporters are certainly keen to see him in action.
