Brendan Rodgers asks reporters to ‘park that’ as Bobby Clark Celtic report directly addressed

Brendan Rodgers asked journalists at his Friday press conference to refrain from posing questions about the January transfer window.

Celtic fans were outraged by the terrible summer transfer window which saw the club scrambling frantically for signings on deadline day.

The Bhoys saw a number of lowball offers for several targets rejected and the lack of quality business conducted has led to numerous protests.

Transfer chatter had naturally died down since September 1 when the window closed, but speculation has ramped up again.

On Thursday, The Times claimed Bobby Clark is set to join Celtic for £6m in January from Austrian side RB Salzburg. Now, Rodgers has been asked about the potential deal.

Rodgers claims zero knowledge of Clark to Celtic transfer

The Celtic boss told reporters that he has no idea where the story has come from and asked reporters not to ask questions about the January window given it’s only mid-October.

Rodgers said: “It’s one that’s come from a long way out. I wouldn’t normally say anything on anything, but I really don’t know where that has come from at all. Especially in October. I’m really not sure where that’s come from.

“Listen, for the overall health of the club, like I say, it’s not just about one window. The club is about progressing each time you go through each window. That’s the whole idea.

Obviously, when January comes, the squad, if it needs strengthening, then that’s what hopefully can be done. But we’re quite away from that yet, so if you can just park that for a few more weeks, then we can focus on the football here and now.”

How Derby County boss reacted to Clark report

Yesterday at his pre-Oxford United press conference, Derby County manager John Eustace was asked about Clark to Celtic.

The young midfielder is currently on loan at the EFL Championship outfit until the end of the campaign from RB Salzburg.

Clark has so far made 10 appearances for the Rams, with Eustace sharing that he does not want to lose the ex-Liverpool starlet midway through the season.

Eustace said: “It’s the first I’ve heard of it (Clark to Celtic), so that’s interesting. But we certainly don’t want to lose him.

“We brought Bobby in to help develop him, to give him a platform to perform, and he’s certainly done that up to now. There’s a lot more to come from him.

“I think we’re developing him in the right way, but this is the culture and the environment that we set here at Derby.

“The players that have come are going to be developed properly and it’s great that big clubs like Celtic can look at him. We certainly don’t want him to go anywhere.”
