Celtic are reportedly set to sign ex-Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark for £6m in January.

Currently an RB Salzburg player, Clark looks set to move to the Scottish champions as one of Brendan Rodgers’ first winter signings. Celtic were linked to Clark back in August 2024.

Celtic have come under fire for their shambolic summer transfer window and are clearly looking to make amends in January with the capture of Clark.

The 20-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at Derby County and has been a mainstay in John Eustace’s side this year.

Clark was said to be ‘interested’ in moving to Celtic when news of the Parkhead club’s interest broke last season.

According to The Times, Celtic will complete the deal for £6m with Clark keen to return to the UK permanently this season.

Who is Bobby Clark and how he would fit in at Celtic

The young central midfielder was bought by the Anfield club from Newcastle United in August 2021 for just £1.5m, before making his debut at the age of 17 and earning 14 appearances.

After spending three seasons at Liverpool, Clark made a whopping £10m move to RB Salzburg and signed a five-year deal at the Austrian club.

He made his debut for Salzburg in a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Sparta Prague in September 2024.

Paying £6m for a 20-year-old, Celtic fans would assume that Clark is coming to play a big part in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans for the rest of the season.

Could this be the long-term replacement for Callum McGregor Celtic need? Only time will tell.

Jurgen Klopp’s glowing report of Celtic-bound Bobby Clark

Clark was coached by Jurgen Klopp for three years before the German left Anfield two summers ago.

And what the Liverpool legend said about him bodes well for Celtic supporters.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video as transcribed by Rousing The Kop, Klopp said in 2022, “We brought on Ben Doak and we see in the first situation how ‘cheeky’ he is and we have others in the background

“Bobby Clark, another famous name in England, and the kid is a really good player as well.

“So the future is bright.”
