Brendan Rodgers has ‘spoken to a few’ clubs over potential Celtic loan exit

Brendan Rodgers needs to trim down his Celtic first-team squad.

The Hoops manager has already sanctioned three exits across the early part of the summer window, while Greg Taylor and Daniel Cummings let their contracts expire.

But more players need to be shipped out. Maik Nawrocki is close to a Hannover 96 loan switch, while Braga are trying to sign Gustaf Lagerbielke.

There is, however, Johnny Kenny. Does he really have a future at Celtic, or does Rodgers have something different in mind for the Irishman?

Rodgers addresses Johnny Kenny’s Celtic future

Kenny scored his first Celtic goal in the penultimate Scottish Premiership game of last season with an expertly taken finish.

And the striker netted against Queen’s Park on Friday night to secure a 1-0 win for the Bhoys at The City Stadium in Mount Florida.

Celtic rejected a £500k bid from Bolton Wanderers for Kenny, and that’s because Rodgers wants the forward to be in his future plans.

But the Celtic boss is considering a loan move for Kenny. He said on Friday night: “I’ve spoken to a few clubs that want to take him on loan.

“I just want to have a look in pre-season just to see where we’re at and see what’s going to be the best for his development. We obviously want him to be a Celtic player. He’s a goalscorer. There’s absolutely no doubt about that.

“It’s what’s going to be the best for him and Celtic and whether that’s going to be here or whether it’s just go away and get some more games and play.

“But I’ll assess that over pre-season.”

Unique Angle footage proves one thing about Kenny

There’s no doubt Kenny knows where the goal is, as explicitly stated by Rodgers above. And his goal against Queen’s Park proved that.

The build-up to the goal was sublime, with Mitchel Frame impressing the most, before the ball was cut back with pace for Kenny inside the box.

Kenny blasted a first-time effort into the net with aplomb, which ultimately was the strike that settled the win for Celtic.

If Kenny continues to score like that across pre-season, Rodgers needs to keep him in and around the first-team squad for the campaign ahead.
