Celtic will be squarely focused on the task of facing Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership after the transfer window came to its conclusion.

Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn have become the latest two recruits to grace Parkhead and both will be in contention to play a part at Pittodrie tomorrow lunchtime.

Despite this, the Hoops failed to bolster their options at left-back amid Greg Taylor’s absence due to a calf strain.

According to reports, Brendan Rodgers was in the market for cover in the position; however, 11.30 pm on Thursday came and went without an announcement, much to the dismay of some supporters.

Alexandro Bernabei is the only natural successor to Taylor with a quantifiable level of senior experience within the role; nevertheless, the Argentine struggled in a rare start at home to Ross County last weekend.

The 23-year-old is likely to start away to Aberdeen tomorrow for a second week running, which will only continue to stoke the recent sentiment surrounding the Scottish Premiership champions’ recruitment strategy.

Brendan Rodgers makes honest Celtic transfer policy admission

As expected, Celtic boss Rodgers has been fielding some difficult questions today regarding his side’s transfer philosophy.

Speaking ahead of the Hoops’ trip to Aberdeen, the 51-year-old has admitted he would like the club to be somewhat bolder in their approach to acquiring new talent.

Rodgers stated [Celtic FC YouTube]: “You can’t label it on the recruitment team – it’s a collective responsibility.”

He then added: “I would go with what supporters think. We could be a little braver in terms of bringing in another level of player, but that’s up to me to try to fix that.

“You look at the strategy here at the club and you have to be careful, because it has worked – you bring in players for a minimal fee and then they make the club a lot of money.

“I want to still do that but also be brave enough to hang our hat on a ready-made player. I totally understand the support but that player has to be available.”

Celtic find themselves in a genuine race for the title

At this point, Celtic are in a genuine fight for the Scottish Premiership title and it remains to be seen if their January business will impact their credentials positively or negatively.

Injuries will also play their part over the second half of the campaign. Rodgers will have to contend with the fact that key men Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers are set for a period on the sidelines.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s heroics in either Glasgow derby this term have ensured that the Hoops hold a five-point lead at the top of the pile; however, nothing is won or lost in the league in February.

Rodgers’ men will have to apply themselves over the coming weeks to prove why they believe they are the team to beat in Scotland, starting against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
