Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has stated no players have been pushed onto him during his second spell at the club after concerns were raised at today’s AGM.

Some Celtic fans have been left less than impressed with some of the recruitment at the club over the summer transfer window with several ‘project’ players arriving rather than the true quality that Rodgers seeks.

It’s led to speculation that the Celtic boss may not be entirely happy with some of the talents that arrived during the first few months of his return.

Rodgers makes final decisions on Celtic transfers

Referencing the decision to sign Marian Shved during his first spell, which Rodgers effectively denied knowledge of publicly, one shareholder at today’s AGM wanted reassurance that first-team-ready players will be arriving.

The Celtic boss responded [The Herald]: “No player has been pushed onto me. We have a structure and set up and we are planning for longer term in our signing strategy. I make the final decision on whether we sign a player.”

Rodgers added that players such as Odin Thiago Holm, who he believes in, will improve as they get more exposure to football in a Celtic shirt.

Earlier on Wednesday, Rodgers reiterated that the club would be looking to add quality to his squad over the next two transfer windows and that the size of the overall group would be reduced.

While the manager is making it clear he wants a better of calibre of players available to him, it remains a united front at Celtic with Rodgers fully backing the club’s transfer activity and demonstrating happiness with key figures such as head of recruitment Mark Lawwell.

Rodgers is also making it clear that no one is signing players above him, despite some myths that are propagated online and amongst sections of the fanbase.

We now wait to see how January turns out. Expectations are high.

In other news, Michael Nicholson and Peter Lawwell take Rangers digs at Celtic AGM but a serious point is made.
