While Celtic are expected to announce the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Paulo Bernardo on deadline day, there is still hope of more arriving beyond him after Brendan Rodgers’ interview with Sky Sports earlier today.
In his press conference, Rodgers wasn’t really drawn on the subject of a new signing in addition to Bernardo stating: “I’m not so sure, I don’t think there’ll be many more coming in.”
However, in an interview with Sky, Rodgers indicated that a few deals could be in the pipeline, saying: “There’s a number of players we’ve still to confirm to come in. There are areas we wanted to improve and we’ve been able to do that. We’ll just see how the rest of the window looks.”
Asked directly if there could be more than Bernardo coming in, Rodgers said it was possible. The two statements don’t exactly contradict each other but he was notably more reserved on the prospect of multiple deadline day deals in the press conference.
The context to that is that the TV interview took place an hour before the media event, so whether there was a transfer setback between the two comments we’ll have to wait and see on.
The optimistic fans amongst us will see his Sky interview as a signal that there is more business to be done once Bernardo is officially announced as the latest summer signing, which could be any minute now.

Fans will be hoping to wake up on Saturday and feel confident about the depth available to the manager for challenges at home and abroad over the coming months. There’s a lot of football to be played between now and January.
