If you’re anything like me, you’re probably sick of wondering what might have been with Ivan Toney and Celtic this season.

As we know, Toney was incredibly close to signing for the Bhoys, even making a trip to Glasgow to meet with former manager Neil Lennon.

That player’s gone, and fine, let’s get over it and stop torturing Celtic.

However, looking to the future, we can’t let the same mistake happen twice.

That makes Brentford’s reported interest in Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet very interesting indeed.

The Scottish Sun say, that with Ivan Toney being tracked by English Premier League sides, Nisbet could be brought in to help replace his goalscoring exploits.

Brentford have a reputation of signing unpolished players and selling them for a profit. Nisbet may well be their next project.

Even if he doesn’t end up there, another English side would no doubt bite. Birmingham City had a multi-million-pound bid for him rejected in January, for example.

Celtic move for Kevin Nisbet would be exciting

Should Celtic show interest and complicate matters? Surely we can’t let another potential Championship star escape our grasp?

Nisbet has been in fine form for Hibs this season. He’s scored 18 goals and assisted eight times in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Indeed, he was even on the scoresheet against Dundee United at Hampden in today’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

With Celtic having a striking refresh of their own this summer, I reckon we could do a lot worse than having a go at signing up Nisbet.

Odsonne Edouard is likely away, Patryk Klimala is already in America, Albian Ajeti is further away from the team than ever and there are question marks surrounding Leigh Griffiths too.

Nisbet is showing serious potential at this level. With English clubs circling, Celtic should use their muscle to test out a potential switch to Glasgow.
