Celtic accelerate Dinko Horkas talks as discussions enter ‘decisive phase’

Las Palmas’ talks to sell Celtic target Dinko Horkas have reportedly entered a “decisive phase”.

At this point, Horkas appears to be Celtic’s primary goalkeeping target, with talks first being reported around four weeks ago.

They aren’t alone in their pursuit, and the Gran Canaria side are unlikely to let the stopper go on the cheap.

However, new reports from Spain say that Celtic are the most active club in the hunt for the Croatian.

Has he done enough?

Las Palmas ‘not rushing’ Dinko Horkas sale as Saudi clubs compete with Celtic

Despite Celtic being the most active club in the race for Horkas, La Provincia report that an unnamed Saudi club have “changed the landscape”.

Clearly, the mystery Middle East side are operating with different financial resources to the Hoops.

The report says that club directors are “working tirelessly in Marbella to work out a deal most suitable for all parties”.

The retirement of Kasper Schmeichel has created a vacancy in the Hoops’ goalkeeping department, and Martin O’Neill appears to be targeting a number one.

It has previously been reported that Hull City, Olympiacos and Sevilla are all also in the race for the Croatian goalkeeper.

He is valued at £6-8 million, though club president Miguel Angel Ramirez says that clubs interested in the goalkeeper have got off to a ‘bad start’ in negotiations.

That’s because, he claims, that clubs have been ‘tapping up’ the player and negotiating with him individually before making an approach to the second tier side.

With Horkas as first-choice goalkeeper, Las Palmas just failed in their bid for promotion back to La Liga, losing out to Malaga in the play-offs.

So many great Daizen Maeda memories, but what stands out? 🔥😎🍀

Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Celtic are targeting a goalkeeper

Speaking to the media last week, O’Neill said: “We’re definitely looking for another goalkeeper.

“Whether it be a youngish fellow, same age as Sinisalo, or somebody a bit older, we’re definitely looking at it.

“Because we’ve only got Sinisalo here at this minute and we’ve got Ross [Doohan].”

Sinisalo deputised last season in the absence of Schmeichel, and it remains to be seen if he will continue to receive minutes this season.
