Celtic and the potential return to the table for Flavius Daniliuc as new suitors emerge

Celtic are into the last few weeks of the window and know they have work to do in expanding squad depth across several positions.

Conclusively, the only area you can say has been fully addressed is the goalkeeping slots. Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo have had ample time to settle in at Parkhead.

Nevertheless, their central defensive line could be subject to alterations. Stephen Welsh is set to stay at Celtic, but Yuki Kobayashi, Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke may all be allowed to depart.

Brendan Rodgers could look to bring in another body to form a core four alongside Welsh, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Scales, though only if fringe assets make way.

Salernitana’s Flavius Daniliuc has been linked to Celtic over the summer, and reports from Italy indicate that pursuit may not be dead in the water despite going cold recently.

Per TuttoSalernitana, Celtic could ‘return to the charge’ for Daniliuc in the final days of the transfer window alongside RB Salzburg, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

The Austrian giants had a €5 million (£4.3 million) buyout clause for the defender that has since expired upon his return back to Italy.

Intriguingly, Como have emerged as suitors for the Austria international in recent times as they look to continue building their star-studded squad under Cesc Fabregas.

Coming into Serie A this year as a newly promoted outfit, the former Arsenal midfielder has brought in the likes of Raphael Varane, Andrea Belotti and Pepe Reina this summer.

Their new rich ownership can push the boat out for targets. Daniliuc is the latest on their list and it remains to be seen what happens there.

It is no secret Celtic are light on central defenders, maybe not in terms of numbers but regarding the quality Rodgers desires. With several free to leave, it could open up the potential for the man in question to become a marquee addition in the final stages of the window.
