Defender Jack Hendry has left Celtic on a permanent basis to join Belgian side KV Oostende.
Hendry was out on loan in the Belgian top-flight last year. He impressed supporters and pundits with consistent form. That helped him force his way into Steve Clarke’s plans for Euro 2020, where he started the group stage match against Czech Republic.
Oostende held an option to buy the player and it seems they’ve activated that, as well as convinced Hendry his future lies away from Celtic Park.
It’s been reported that they plan to sell him for profit this summer, though that has yet to be confirmed.
Some fans have pondered whether his form in Belgium showed he is good enough for another shot at Celtic. However, the reality is that he never really showed any potential for us and that this is probably the best thing for all parties.
Signed by Brendan Rodgers from Dundee, Hendry never convinced in a Celtic shirt.
Still, it’d be nice to see him do well elsewhere. I hope he finds a club he can play regularly at and continue to improve.
Celtic will be moving on and trying to bring in defensive targets of their own this summer. With Kristoffer Ajer potentially leaving too, we need real quality in the door.
