Celtic have announced Vakoun Bayo has left the club to join Belgian side Gent on a permanent basis.

Bayo has signed a four-year deal with his new club.

Gent Sporting Manager Tim Matthys said of the signing on their official website: “Vakoun is a fast and agile striker who is very strong offensively. He is a player who will offer our coach many opportunities up front.”

The Ivorian arrived at Celtic with a bit of fanfare in January 2019 but never really impressed under Neil Lennon.

He was eventually sent out on loan to Ligue 2 side Toulouse last season, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances.

The French side were eager to retain his services but it seems a grander move was always on the table for the forward, who withdrew from his country’s Olympics squad to complete the move.

It’s a good thing to see the club moving on players who either didn’t want another opportunity at Celtic, or were deemed not good enough to get one.

We’ve seen a variety of frozen out players join new manager Ange Postecoglou in Wales this week, including Boli Bolingoli and Olivier Ntcham.

However, Bayo didn’t join them, and it’s now clear to see why. Every player moved on helps with the wage bill and budget available to Postecoglou.

The best of luck to you Vakoun!
