Celtic are “very serious” about trying to sign Bayern Munich youngster Christopher Scott, a source close to the player has told The Daily Record.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has an expiring contract at the German giants. However, The Record reports that Bayern intend in invoke a year’s option on the player so they don’t lose out on a fee for him.

Regardless, it seems Scott’s time at the club is coming to an end, with little chance of featuring regularly for the first team. And he could be available for just a few hundred thousand pounds.

Celtic are showing heavy interest in Christopher Scott

The Daily Record’s player source is quoted as saying [31/03 print edition, page 53]: “Bayern Munich have the option of extending Christopher’s contract by one more year and this is one-sided on the club’s part.

“They won’t let him go for free and it would cost around 300,000 Euros to 400,000 Euros for him. Bayern at the moment aren’t well known for bringing players into the first team and Christopher is looking for a new challenge.

“It’s clear that Celtic would be a massive option for him and they have been in talks but the English Premier League is also an option. Celtic are very serious about trying to sign him.”

Reports in Germany earlier this week indicated Celtic had already held talks with the youngster, who has made two appearances for the senior side.

Celtic have recruited young players well over the last half-decade with Moussa Dembele, Odsonne Edouard and Matt O’Riley all arriving from larger nations to make an impact at the Bhoys.

Could Scott be the latest to find a home to play the first-team football he feels he needs? It seems that certainly can’t be ruled out!

With Brentford also said to be in the race to sign him, his situation is one to closely monitor over the next couple of months.
