Celtic backed by Frank McAvennie to sign Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin after Callum McGregor claim

Even during such an off-season for Celtic and Callum McGregor, the double could still be achieved.

That would probably sum up the power Celtic have on the domestic stage, as Frank McAvennie went down a wild alley and suggested he would like Nico Raskin at Parkhead.

While Celtic, Hearts and Rangers battle it out for Scotland’s main prize ahead of the post-split fixtures, McAvennie took a liking to the man in the middle of the park at Ibrox.

“I know the Celtic supporters don’t like him, but I really do like Raskin,” said McAvennie. “I wish he were in our team.”

As Celtic narrowly beat St Mirren on Saturday, Hearts also picked up three points against Motherwell, while Rangers recorded a 6-3 win at Falkirk, with Raskin starting the game.

Nico Raskin compared to Callum McGregor and Scott Brown

Yes, McGregor has had better seasons than the current one, but no midfielders in Scotland touch the levels he has produced over the years.

Raskin has been in Scotland since 2023, and he has zero trophies to his name for a reason, while McGregor has been eating them up in his sleep since then.

Whilst it would be hilarious for Celtic to sign somebody like Raskin, and let’s be honest, it’s never going to happen, for McAvennie to compare him to McGregor is outrageous.

It also needs to be noted that McGregor is 32, and Raskin is 25, yet still, the Rangers man can’t put daylight between himself and the Hoops skipper.

Perhaps McAvennie is right, speaking on Let Me Be Frank, that Raskin does ‘really annoy’ opposing supporters like Scott Brown used to do.

But once again, Brown used to do it whilst lifting trophies.

“I know the Celtic supporters don’t like him, but I really do like Raskin,” said McAvennie. “I wish he were in our team.

“He’s solid. He keeps the ball. A bit like Callum used to do. He gets himself forward. But he always seems to be there. I thought he controlled the game against Falkirk.

“We need somebody like that in our team. He’s a bit like Scott Brown, really. He annoys people. Really annoys opposing teams, players and supporters.”
