Celtic are closing in on a deal to land their first signing of the summer transfer window after a long search for a Joe Hart replacement.

The Bhoys have been linked with over 20 goalkeepers over the last few months in a seemingly neverending hunt for a new number one.

In the end, Brendan Rodgers will go with a name he knows very, very well from his Leicester City days.

On Friday night, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Bhoys were finalising the details of an agreement with Danish international Kasper Schmeichel.

The 37-year-old is set to bring his vast experience to Celtic and, hopefully, stability to a position that was the key priority for the club this summer.

Kasper Schmeichel’s reported contract length

Romano has now followed up his reporting with new details about Schmeichel’s switch to the Bhoys.

He says that the veteran shot-stopper will sign on for an initial year’s contract until the summer of 2025, with an option to extend that into 2026.

As expected, Schmeichel isn’t going to be signing a long-term deal in the tail-end of his career. This short-term move will help the Bhoys out for the coming year.

Schmeichel’s Celtic medical is coming soon

Danish outlet Tipsbladet has also reported that Schmeichel could arrive at Celtic very soon with a medical set to take place over the coming days.

It’s said he has prioritised the Bhoys over Anderlecht, who he played for last term, and teams in Saudi Arabia to come and work with Rodgers.

All going well, Schmeichel will be on the plane for the upcoming USA tour with matches against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea set to be his initial tests with the Celtic defence.
