Ryan Fraser isn’t the only wide option Celtic are considering in the final weeks of the transfer window, as Brendan Rodgers makes a new attacker one of his squad priorities.
It was reported by The Northern Echo earlier on Monday that the Bhoys are keen on the Newcastle and Scotland winger, with the English Premier League side keen on shedding him from their wage bill.
That desire is so strong that he has actually been offered around to different clubs in Scotland and England. While Celtic are yet to make a formal offer, multiple outlets are now reporting they are keen.
While a big transfer fee may not be required, The Daily Record also reports that his current £60k-a-week salary could still prove to be a stumbling block for any interested parties – including Celtic. So there’s a long way to run on this one.
Fraser has two years left on his contract at St James’ Park, so if he fancies earning that kind of cash for the next couple of seasons – even if he’s not playing – there’s not much Newcastle can do about it. The Bhoys certainly won’t be paying that kind of money to him so he’d need to take a pay cut if he’s heading north.
The Record goes on to say that Fraser is just one of several wide options that Celtic are mulling over, at the moment. So, no one is all on the Newcastle man yet and the Scottish champions could pursue another target.
No alternatives are named but Celtic keep their cards very close to their chest until something is on the verge of being completed.
Meanwhile, the Bhoys are said to be on the verge of completing a deal for Elfsborg defender Gustaf Lagerbielke. Hopes are high the move will go through ahead of this weekend’s match against Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup.
