Celtic are closing in on the signing of West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti, The Guardian has reported this afternoon.

It’s said by the national outlet that Ajeti will join on an initial loan deal, with the Scottish champions having the option to purchase him for £5m next summer.

Ajeti has had his struggles at the Hammers over the last 12 months and failed to score in nine Premier League appearances from the bench.

However, it’s no disgrace to find it tough at that level these days.

There’s every chance he could still be a hit at Celtic Park, as evidenced by the recent impact of Fraser Forster and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Ajeti was a consistent and impressive talent at Basel in his homeland and, still just 23 years of age, has plenty of time to rebuild his career.

He netted 43 times in 96 appearances for the Swiss outfit, assisting a further 21 for his teammates (Transfermarkt).

Along the way, he won three league titles, a national cup and was the Swiss Super League top scorer in 2017/18.

With ten international caps and Champions League group stage experience to his name too, the profile is perfect for Celtic in 2020.

Neil Lennon is clearly looking for more quality in his attack, which may be an indication he is again moving towards a two-striker formation.

If that’s the case, we definitely need more depth in the position.

The reports have certainly caught the imagination of Celtic supporters, some of whom are eager to see the player sign up this week.

These fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts over the last 24 hours…

In other news, fans were left impressed by the performance of Karamoko Dembele against Hibernian today.
