Celtic have expressed interest in signing Owen Beck from Liverpool this summer after pursuing him as a target in the January transfer window.

Beck was on loan at Dundee last season and showed eye-catching Scottish Premiership form as a creative and forward-thinking full-back, alerting Celtic to his potential.

The Bhoys explored the possibility of signing him in the winter window but he had returned to Liverpool for assessment and was fielded by Jurgen Klopp, preventing him from moving to a third club per FIFA rules.

Now, Celtic have declared their interest to the Reds again with multiple teams chasing the left-back’s signature.

Beck is currently on a pre-season tour of the USA with the Premier League side and has featured in friendlies against Arsenal and Real Betis.

Liverpool will make Owen Beck decision soon

Sky Sports report that while Celtic are keen on signing the 21-year-old permanently, other English teams such as Queens Park Rangers are pushing for a loan switch.

Liverpool are set to decide on his future as soon as next week as they consider all the options available to him and the club.

It’s said that the Anfield side are open to offers but have a valuation that must be met on a permanent transfer.

Celtic badly need a left-back in the building

There is currently no competition for Greg Taylor’s spot in the Celtic team beyond youth options from the Bhoys Academy.

Alexandro Bernabei is on loan in Brazil until the end of the year. While Matthew Anderson has impressed in pre-season, he is also untested.

Beck played 25 times in the Premiership last season so knows what the league is all about.

Per FotMob, the youngster ranked highly across the league in his position when it came to chance creation and cross accuracy. Rodgers clearly admires his talent and potential given the persistent interest.

Getting a left-back into the set-up quickly would be a significant step forward as the manager puts together a squad that can compete on four fronts this season.
