An injury to Chris Jullien has left Celtic short of defensive options for the rest of the season.

The Frenchman is out for as many as four months in the second half of the campaign after suffering a knee injury against Dundee United.

The situation has left Neil Lennon scrambling for a replacement.

It just so happens that the future of Preston North End defender Ben Davies has yet to be decided and Celtic are free to try for his signing on a pre-contract basis.

He could be the perfect signing.

What’s the latest on Davies?

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Celtic are amongst the group of clubs who want him this month.

Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Genk are all also keen.

The Preston man has rejected contract offers to stay at Deepdale and looks set for an exit.

Davies is capable of playing at left-back and centre-back.

He’s been a regular at Preston this term as they push for a playoff spot in the Championship.

He has the talent and experience to make the step to Celtic.

Celtic Jullien replacement strategy needs to work

Shane Duffy has struggled this season, and Kristoffer Ajer may not have a long-term future at the club.

Celtic need to get this signing spot on, or risk backing themselves into a corner this summer ahead of European qualifiers.

We’ve done that too often with recruitment recently.

Davies has the profile, and he’s available. I’d love to see them commit to this one.

In other news, Fraser Forster has kept a Premier League clean sheet against Liverpool tonight.
