Celtic have been given an encouraging David Strelec update ahead of summer transfer window

Celtic are almost certainly going to sign a striker this summer.

Brendan Rodgers has a wish list of players to sign with a number nine to challenge, or even replace Adam Idah, one of the priorities.

David Strelec is a name who has been linked with Celtic regularly over the coming months after an excellent season in front of goal for Slovan Bratislava.

Lubomir Moravcik has urged Celtic to sign Strelec this summer and it is likely that the Slovakia international will be a man in-demand.

Deemed too pricey in January to fill the void left by Kyogo Furuhashi, a new update could prick the ears up at Parkhead.

Slovan Bratislava CEO says David Strelec may be sold on the cheap

Earlier this year, Celtic were told it would cost over £5m to sign Strelec, but a fresh update suggests they could land him for a bargain.

The 20-goal striker will almost certainly leave Bratislava and has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough too.

In a recent interview, the club’s CEO, Ivan Kmotrik, admitted to local media that they could sell the 24-year-old for a much smaller fee than anticipated.

He said: “We took a risk with David. In the summer, maybe a slightly lower offer will come, it can happen. But David didn’t leave in the winter because we weren’t ready for it. The offers were very good, but the really interesting ones came at the last minute.

“I can’t rule out whether he will stay or leave. There is still interest in him.

“Compared to the winter, he will only be a few months older, his position has not deteriorated significantly. Maybe the club will earn a little less, but he will be well prepared and will bring adequate compensation to the club.”

How does David Strelec compare to fellow Celtic target Mathias Kvistgaarden?

Strelec isn’t the only name on the shortlist and Celtic will do their due diligence to bring in the right striker.

Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby is another one and Kvistgaarden was close to joining Celtic in January.

Both are very similar profiles in terms of age and the numbers put up, but where Kvistgaarden trumps Strelec is the goals per minute statistic, as well as scoring two goals less than the Slovakia international in 11 less games.

One thing for sure is that the Bhoys will have money to spend in the summer and given that the Brondby forward can also operate as a wide man, he may be the number one candidate.
