Celtic have finally learned what they would need to pay in order to sign Louis Munteanu from CFR Cluj.
Munteanu tried to leave the Romanian side in the summer but they held firm after slapping an asking price of almost £20m on him.
The forward stayed, however, and has been integrated back into the first team.
But, with Cluj struggling financially, the 23-year-old is likely to be moved on, and if Celtic want to go back in for him, they know exactly what they will need to pay.
How many signings do Celtic need in January?
Louis Munteanu asking price revealed
Cluj’s chiefs are prepared to allow the striker to leave in the winter window to help balance the books.
They have stressed that no other key asset will be allowed to leave in January, if they can sell Munteanu for €10m (£8.7m).
Club chairman Iuliu Muresan told Digi Sport: “What if we had an offer of 10 million? Yes, I would say it’s good for him to leave, but the owner makes the decision. Under the patronage of Nelutu Varga, the club won five titles. The club performed through its investments, we must thank him for that.
“We can’t give the whole team. If we sell one or two for the right amount, we stop. If we take 10 million for Louis, maybe we won’t sell anything else.”

Louis Munteanu’s 2025/26 stats
All of the speculation over his future has no doubt played a part in Munteanu’s slump in form this season.
After scoring 25 goals in all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign, his return has been nowhere near the standard required.
Three goals and six assists from 20 games this year is not what you would expect from a man in form.
If he were to join, though, it would allow Daizen Maeda to move to his more natural left wing position, and provide a focal point in Wilfried Nancy’s attack.
