Celtic have Michel-Ange Balikwisha ‘agreement’ but ‘internal issues’ are holding up transfer

The Michel-Ange Balikwisha saga goes on and on.

Celtic have been linked with the winger since last summer, and in June seemed close to signing him from Royal Antwerp after advanced talks.

However, since then, it’s all been up in the air. Mixed messages, conflicting reports, and crucially no real substance in the speculation.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has been one of the leading reporters covering Celtic’s pursuit of Balikwisha – and he has dropped an update.

Balikwisha to Celtic transfer delay explained

Tavolieri took to social media platform X and explained why there’s a hold-up in the deal to take Balikwisha from Antwerp to Celtic.

He says that the situation is ‘complicated’ because while Celtic have reportedly agreed a deal in principle to sign Balikwisha, issues on the player’s side are delaying the transfer.

So it appears this one is no fault of Celtic, who apparently had a medical scheduled for Balikwisha. Tavolieri signed off his post with a ‘wait and see’ message.

It’s clear Celtic are keen to sign Balikwisha, but there seems to be a situation on his side that is preventing any sort of finalisation. What that is exactly? Nobody knows but him and Antwerp.

Balikwisha’s stats for Royal Antwerp last season

Celtic would be signing a player who does have injury issues, it must be said. Last season, Balikwisha only played 16 games for Antwerp as a result.
