"Celtic have their auction"; Journalist reports yet another official bid for Odsonne Edouard

Crystal Palace are the latest club to step forward in pursuit of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard after interest from Rubin Kazan, Bordeaux and Everton was reported earlier today.

Journalist Alan Nixon, who first reported the Rubin Kazan and French interest which was later corroborated by Sky Sports, says that Palace have made an official offer for the Frenchman.

All bids have so far being reported in the region of £15m. However, with four clubs interested, Celtic are in an increasingly fortuitous position.

As Nixon says, we have an auction and a bidding war on our hands.

This is exciting news given Edouard’s contract status and Celtic’s lack of leverage in that regard.

The only hope we have of driving the price towards £20m is if multiple clubs are keen and want exclusivity on personal negotiations with the Celtic forward.

Reports of interest from four clubs have now emerged over the last 12 hours. In my mind, that means there is smoke behind the fire here and that it increasingly looks like Edouard will be leaving the club before the end of August.

It seems that Celtic may have even been holding back on entertaining interest while the club pushed for Europa League qualification.

This would be a smart strategy.

Ange Postecoglou has also said on multiple occasions this summer that the club have contingency plans in place should Edouard depart.

That remains to be proven, but it’s all shaping up to be a very busy end to the transfer window for Celtic.
