The race is on to sign Celtic’s Luis Palma this summer.

The winger has spent this season on loan at Lech Poznan in Poland, where he is closing in on the Ekstraklasa title.

This would be a third successive league trophy at three different clubs for Palma, and he is attracting attention beyond Poland.

Sevilla are also interested in the 26-year-old, setting the scene for an intense race for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.

Negotiations begin for Luis Palma to leave Celtic

As reported by Deportes TyC, Lech Poznan have begun “formal negotiations” to sign Palma this summer, though there are doubts over their ability to manage this.

The buyout clause of €4.5 million in his contract is almost twice Lech’s record transfer fee, marking a significant financial commitment.

More likely to afford this kind of fee are Sevilla, who are also reportedly keeping a close eye on Palma. The report says that Celtic are in an “advantageous position”.

He has nine goals and nine assists in 44 appearances for the Polish side this season, and certainly appears to be happy where he is.

Palma was brought to Glasgow from Aris Thessaloniki in the final days of Brendan Rodgers’ first transfer window after returning in 2023.

The window had such a bad hit-rate that Mark Lawwell ended up leaving the club, but unlike some other recruits, Palma did make solid contributions to the side.

He scored two goals in the Champions League group stage, also providing a hat-trick of assists in a game against Aberdeen.

But in his second season, he found it impossible to make it into the team’s first-choice attack, and made his last Hoops appearance last January.

Palma may have rediscovered his form, but at the moment it looks unlikely that he will play for Celtic beyond this season.

Luis Palma’s reflection on his Celtic career

Speaking to TNH via Alvaro De La Rocha about his Celtic situation in March, Palma said: “At Celtic I had a great time, I enjoyed it a lot.

“I want to have a second chance, I have a contract with them, I’m still part of the club and if they say I have to return, I’ll do it in the best way possible.

“My dream is to return to a high-performance league; for me, the Scottish league was a high-performance one.

“I got to play what every player wants to play, which was the Champions League—that dream hasn’t died yet. I want to feel that sensation again of playing one of those matches.
