Celtic linked with move for AFCON star who would give Wilfried Nancy exactly what he needs

Wilfried Nancy needs a fair few things at Celtic.

First and foremost, he needs more wins. Nancy discovered the hard way that losing is not the done thing in Glasgow.

But with his abrupt change in formation leading to serious teething issues, he could do with some help in the transfer market.

Striker is an obvious problem position, and plenty of names are already doing the rounds as potential winter reinforcements.

But the latest rumour is surrounding a different position – one that Nancy could really do with.

Wilfried Nancy in the race to bring Anass Salah-Eddine to Celtic

Anass Salah-Eddine is a highly-rated left-wing-back, and Celtic aren’t the only club who like him.

In fact, he was linked with a move to Rangers in the summer.

Instead, he moved on loan from Roma to PSV, with an option to buy for nine million euros.

He has excelled for Peter Bosz’s side, starting five times in the Champions League. There’s no doubt that he wouldn’t come cheap.

And according to Africa Foot, Nottingham Forest, FC Porto, Sevilla and Werder Bremen are all closely monitoring the defender, as well as Celtic.

He is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, where he played 90 minutes in their opening group stage match against Comoros.

The 23-year-old joined Roma at the beginning of this year, but that move didn’t work out, leading to such widespread interest in the summer.

But given how he has performed at PSV, it would be some coup if Nancy got his hands on him.

It would certainly beat having Sebastian Tounekti at left-wing-back.

Wilfried Nancy on Celtic’s recruitment strategy

Speaking at his first Celtic press conference, Nancy discussed Celtic’s recruitment strategy.

He said: “Each organisation, the idea is to improve. So the window is coming, so first of all, I’m going to assess the team, to know them a little bit better, and to know them as a person.

“I’ve watched a lot of games this season, but this is about knowing them as a person, and after that, we’re gonna see what’s best for the team.

“I like to take my time, I know that I don’t have a lot of time, but the idea is to be coherent in the idea of the profile, that we need to make the step for learning that.

“[We have a] quality team, quality players, but they have to believe a little bit more in themselves.

“After that, tactical flexibility. We have players who can play in different positions, and for me, this is important – for players who are able to play in two positions, minimum.
