To nobody’s surprise, Celtic opted against bringing Junior Adamu back to the club following his six-month loan spell during the recent campaign.
Adamu arrived at Celtic from SC Freiburg with a bang, scoring on his debut.
However, he quickly fell out of favour under Martin O’Neill, ultimately failing to even make the matchday squads by the end of Celtic’s double-winning campaign.
But upon returning to Germany, beaten Europa League finalists SC Freiburg have moved on the versatile forward, and he is set to join newly-promoted Schalke 04, according to German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg
What would be your one message to Martin O’Neill about Celtic’s upcoming transfer window?

Junior Adamu to line up with Edin Džeko at Schalke 04
When Adamu links up with Schalke, there will be an old-school veteran waiting for him, because Edin Džeko fired Die Königsblauen to promotion during the recent campaign.
Just like Adamu at Celtic, the 40-year-old joined the previously struggling German side in the winter, netting six goals in 11 matches and helping them return to the Bundesliga.
It is expected that Dzeko will stay on for next season, as Schalke boost their firepower by adding Adamu to their ranks on a permanent deal.
Interestingly, the 25-year-old has moved for just ‘£690k’ – a rather low fee, even by Scottish Premiership standards.
‘🚨💥 Junior Adamu to Schalke 04 – DONE DEAL ✔️ Agreement reached with SC Freiburg,’ wrote Plettenberg.
‘Medical taking place right now. Signing of the contract to follow. Transfer fee of €800k plus add-ons, as reported by @BILD_Schalke04 .
‘#S04 The 25 y/o striker had several offers after his loan spell at Celtic, but only wanted Schalke. @SkySportDE 🇦🇹’
Adamu’s miserable spell at Celtic in numbers
It all started perfectly.
Adamu’s goal against Dundee in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup was very crucial in Martin O’Neill’s side lifting the trophy.
It was his stoppage-time flick that sent the tie to extra time. Without it, the Hoops wouldn’t have won the Scottish Cup.
But apart from that, Adamu struggled to showcase his quality and fitness.
- Adamu’s games: 6
- Starts: 3
- Goals: 1
- Assists: 1
