Celtic are showing interest in Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle this month, as Brendan Rodgers looks to add more quality to his Bhoys squad.

The Scottish Sun reports Rodgers is a fan of Doyle and that Celtic are keen to be kept updated on his status, with a number of clubs thoughts to be looking at signing him on a permanent transfer or loan.

Doyle excelled in the English Championship last season on loan at Sheffield United, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League.

Pre-season opponents Wolves are also said to be seriously considering the England U21 international, who was part of the squad that won the U21 Euros this summer.

Celtic have other priorities in the team over central midfield right now, but the report states that Rodgers is ready to move for Doyle if any of his current squad leave before the end of August. The prospect’s contract at City runs until 2025.

The Bhoys obviously have a strong relationship with City. The club’s head of recruitment Mark Lawwell spent ten years within the City Football Group and Celtic have signed many players from their roster of clubs over the years.

Celtic will also be looking for a centre-back over the next few weeks after Rodgers confirmed that they’ll enter the market for a new defender when Carl Starfelt’s exit goes through over the next week.

With many fans looking at the goalkeeping position as a weak point and a replacement for Jota still needed, the Bhoys are expected to be busy before the window shuts.

Will Doyle arrive? That may depend on outgoings, but he has a strong profile and it wouldn’t be that surprising.
