While the Celtic Park faithful got to enjoy Maeda’s magic from the stands or wherever they are in the world, the players experienced it alongside him every day.

Maeda joined Celtic under Ange Postecoglou in 2022, and he was one of many great finds from the J-League by the club’s legendary Treble-winning coach.

Four years is a long time in Glasgow, as Maeda played alongside many great players and created moments they will remember for a very long time.

When Maeda wrote on social media that his chapter with Celtic had been ‘the most special chapter of my career and my life’, he was met with a wave of positive messages from fans and former players.

Celtic can replace Maeda…

The one part of Maeda’s game that is probably going to be very difficult to replicate is that relentless, non-stop pressing.

Not just pressing at the start of a game or when the team has just scored, or the momentum is swinging your way.

But doing it in minute 87 when Celtic are 4-0 up and cruising to victory. No matter the scenario, Maeda pressed, pressed and pressed.

However, with Celtic’s new boy Camilo Duran making an outstanding start to his Hoops career in pre-season, and Kasper Hogh expected to arrive, the club have finally made the proper statement-like signings needed to enhance the forward line.
