Celtic’s pursuit of Tjark Ernst has intensified with Feyenoord ready to rival the Scottish champions for the goalkeeper’s signature.

Ernst is wanted by Celtic but has faced competition from Wolfsburg and Feyenoord as the Bundesliga keeper attracts attention from across Europe.

But Celtic are undeterred and the Parkhead club are prepared to meet Ernst’s transfer release clause as they look to replace the retired Kasper Schmeichel this summer.

You have £10m to spend on a new goalkeeper to replace Kasper Schmeichel…

BILD reveals Celtic and Feyenoord are both ready to pay €5m

Bild reports Celtic and Feyenoord are both prepared to trigger Ernst’s €5m release clause.

The report says, “Celtic Glasgow and Feyenoord Rotterdam are both keen to sign Ernst as their new number one and are prepared to immediately trigger his €5 million release clause.

“Both clubs can easily afford it; the Dutch runners-up are competing in the Champions League, and the Scottish champions are guaranteed a Champions League qualifier, thus playing internationally anyway.”

With Feyenoord seriously in the mix, Celtic face a tough task to capture Ernst but that is only half the battle.

Hertha Berlin offer Ernst a new deal

Not only are Celtic competing with Feyenoord for Ernst, Bild also reports that Hertha Berlin have offered the goalkeeper a new deal to stay at the club.

However, with second-tier football facing the former German U21 international, the appeal of Champions League football and the chance to win silverware with Celtic and Feyenoord will likely appeal to Ernst.

If Bild’s information is accurate, Ernst now has three options before him: stay at Hertha, move to Celtic or join Feyenoord.
