Report: Celtic monitoring Taylor Harwood-Bellis; highly rated by Pep Guardiola
Celtic are ‘monitoring’ Manchester City central defensive duo Ko Itakura and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sky Sports have reported.
However, according to Sky Sports, the club are now also keeping a close eye on another Manchester City defender, Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
The report also states that the Hoops’ interest in another defender doesn’t affect their pursuit of Cameron Carter-Vickers, due to the uncertainty around Christopher Jullien’s future.
Harwood-Bellis is a product of the Manchester City academy and has been heavily involved in the English international youth set-up from under-15s to under-21s level.
The 20-year old also has loan experience, having spent spells at Blackburn Rovers, Anderlecht and most recently Stoke City during the second half of last campaign.
Pep Guardiola once described the young defender who joined City when he was six as “an exceptional human being”, after playing his part in a fourth-round EFL Cup win [Fotmob].
Celtic may be looking to use their close contacts with the English Premier League champions in an attempt to sign another central defender after Mark Lawwell’s recent appointment at the club.
Summer recruitment appears to be well underway behind the scenes
The summer transfer window hasn’t officially opened just yet, but Celtic’s work appears to be well underway this year.
Already, the club has been linked with several targets for the centre-back and left-back positions, as well as closing in on the double signing of Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
It is a very positive sign that the Celtic board are backing Ange Postecoglou after more than earning that trust last season.
Heading into the Champions League group stage, next season is going to be even more challenging, and Postecoglou is clearly keen to build his squad early in time for pre-season.
