Well, it seems that a much-needed striker is going to arrive on Celtic shores before the January transfer window slams shut.
Celtic haven’t been as active as many thought they would be this month, but things could turn up a little bit today.
It’s not a standout name that could be signed, but there are suggestions that Norwich City striker Adam Idah could be joining the champions on a loan deal.
Peter Grant admitted that he is ‘surprised’ by this possible deal from Celtic because the Republic of Ireland international hasn’t exactly had the best of times at Norwich City this season, as he told Go Radio.
From 28 Championship matches, the 22-year-old has six goals, but he has only completed 90 minutes on one occasion.
That record isn’t going to make Celtic fans jump from their seats, but Peter Grant was sure to mention a certain Moussa Dembele and how his record, before joining Celtic from Fulham, wasn’t exactly a great one either.
So, perhaps the fans can take some positivity out of that one and how star man Kyogo Furuhashi will now have someone pushing him.
Celtic to sign Adam Idah on a loan deal
“I have seen him play for Norwich, not that often,” said Grant. “Like everybody else, you can see his stats. It’s easy to do nowadays.
“I am always loathed because you look at the statistics and then you look at the goals, then you put the minutes in there and how many has he played and the full 90 minutes. The Championship is a little bit unforgiving for centre-forwards and Norwich haven’t been playing well, so all this for the striker isn’t great, so that’s the negative side of it.
“From the young lad, what I have seen of him, is he the finished article? Far from it. It’s a surprising one. I don’t mean that disrespectfully to the kid because Celtic is something different. There is no getting away from that.
“I know the Republic of Ireland connection. He has probably been playing more for them than Norwich recently. He is a powerful young lad. I saw him at the start, he scored a few goals. He always gets into good positions. Like any young striker, his stats weren’t that high and the goals.
“Saying that, I worked with Moussa Dembele at Fulham. Would I have recommended Moussa as a Celtic striker? The answer would have probably been no. Statistically, Moussa needed 1 in 6. Celtic strikers need 4 in 6 up here. It’s ironic when Moussa left, he had 1 in 5 and Celtic fans loved him.”
Patience is needed with Idah
There is potential there and Brendan Rodgers has something to work with. Perhaps this sort of signing should have happened in the summer because the player would have had pre-season and much longer to improve his game.
Now, he has to hit the ground running as he gets thrown into the deep end of helping Celtic win two trophies this season.
You will also hope this sparks Kyogo into life because, that striker coming into the dressing room, whilst he will be welcomed.
